Advice for International Students Looking for Accommodation

The Universities in Leeds have confirmed an intake of over 1,500 additional international students who have arrived in the city since January 2023, with over 700 students also joining universities in Bradford and a significant number in Nottingham too.

With the current shortfall of student accommodation available, and reports of many students in temporary living arrangements with friends and family, we have put together this short but hopefully useful blog post for those who may be looking for a room to move into with immediate effect.

If you are in this position, please get in touch with Unipol’s International Housing Advisor to ask any questions and let us know about your experience so we can better support others in similar situations.

Individual students looking for a room

For students studying at Leeds Beckett University, you can apply for a room at Kirkstall Brewery Residence by following this link.

For students studying at the other universities, the Accommodation Office within your university will first of all be able to assist. You can also use the search tool on our website to look for current availability in shared properties.

Another option is to use the Unipol Student Noticeboard where you can find a spare room in a shared house. In this case you’d usually be taking over the tenancy of a student who wishes to move out and needs a replacement as soon as possible.

If you are still struggling or just need us to check anything, including contracts, please get in touch or pop into one of our Housing Hubs we’ll be happy to help.

Students with family members

As there is a general shortage of family accommodation for students, if you have not yet arrived in the UK, we strongly advise against travelling with your family unless you have found and signed for suitable long-term accommodation.

If you are unable to find something suitable through your university or the Unipol website, your best option is to search for accommodation in the private sector.

The websites we’d recommend are listed below:
