House hunting without a group?

If you are wanting to find a property the next academic year but you haven’t found other students to live with, don’t worry – there are many options available to you.

Here are a few pointers for you if you haven’t yet found a group of house mates for 2023/24:

Finding flatmates

Living alone may seem like a tempting option if you don’t know others in the city, however it’s a great idea to try other options such as shared accommodation which can be less isolating and increase social opportunities. Living alone is also usually more expensive, especially if bills aren’t included.

It’s not too late to find other students to live with and form new friendship groups. Why not post a thread on the Unipol Student Noticeboard?

Rooms in a shared house

Many landlords offer individual rooms to rent in a shared house.

This rental option is suitable for students who are open minded about who they live with as it is unlikely that you will meet the other housemates until you move in. In most cases, you will only be responsible for your own rent and will sign an individual contract.

Make sure to check the contract is individual and not a joint tenancy or you may be responsible for other tenants rent if they fail to pay. Your Students’ Union can help you check through your contract to explain anything you are unsure about.

Did you know Unipol has properties on individual lets just for postgraduates? Search here.

When searching for an individual let on the Unipol website ensure you select ‘1’ in the “how many bedrooms do you want” tab. You can also narrow your search down by using the other filters such as type of property (make sure to select “shared property” if you are looking for a room within a shared house rather than a one bedroom house) and cost per week. Click here to visit the Unipol website and select ‘search for housing’ to begin house hunting.

Want to live directly with Unipol? Unipol Housing has many options for individual renters. Visit our housing page here to browse 1 bedroom properties and rooms in shared houses.

Studios and self-contained properties

There are many properties for individuals on the Unipol website. Some are larger studios in purpose built accommodation with gyms and receptions on site. This is a great choice if you would like the option to socialise with others in communal areas but also have your own private living space.

Self-contained options are available with shared bathrooms in smaller properties. If you would like more space but to still live alone, there are various one bedroom houses on the Unipol website.
