For those of you who didn’t manage to catch us on Facebook Live, the 2017 Rate Your Landlord winners were announced at the awards ceremony at the University of Leeds last night. This was the first awards ceremony for the Rate Your Landlord initiative and it proved a success, with the great landlords of Leeds being recognised by their own tenants for their ongoing commitment to providing consistently high quality private student accommodation.
Mike Wilkinson, Chair of Unipol’s Board, introduced the event by giving an overview of the Rate Your Landlord concept, before the winners of each category were announced by LUU’s Jamie Ali and Kelly-Anne Watson from LBSU.
Winners for each category were decided based on the content of the comments received and the overall score the winner received in their individual category.

- The winner of the award for the most improved score is Danny Cohen.
Described by his tenants as: An “excellent landlord – was always quick to respond to any qualms we had with the house. Highly recommend!”
- The winner of the Managing Agent award was Ashfield Properties.
“Lived in this landlord’s properties for two years. By far the best in Leeds. Such an easy experience both times”.
- And finally, the Landlord of the Year award went to Sue Michaels – Leeds Student Houses.
This was decided by Leeds University Union and Leeds Beckett Students’ Union, and was based on the overwhelming number of outstanding comments we received for Sue, including: “Sue completely understands that signing for a house can be daunting and put us all at ease. A lovely landlord I would highly recommend”, and “such a lovely and thoughtful woman. She makes sure we are very comfortable which makes the university experience more enjoyable”.
A huge well done to all of the winners!
